The Wetaskiwin Emergency Shelter is looking for volunteers and food donations following a fire that destroyed a motel-apartment complex in the community.
RCMP evacuated “Manny’s Motel” late Tuesday night while the Wetaskiwin and another nearby fire department battled flames that quickly engulfed the building.
The emergency shelter took in over 20 residents from Manny’s Motel which offers low income housing and is also a shelter.
Emergency shelter staff expect to house about 40 people this evening because of the extremely cold temperatures.
Wetaskiwin fire crews remained on the scene and RCMP blocked off the area today.
Police say there were no injuries.
The fire is under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers or the Wetaskiwin RCMP detachment.
