The provincial NDP wants an independent investigation into allegations made by House Speaker Randy Weekes regarding bullying and firearms inside the legislative building.
Ethics Critic Meara Conway says the House Services Committee has the authority to appoint an independent investigator with subpoena power—meaning that witnesses would have to testify under oath.
Premier Scott Moe says he will not initiate an investigation, but Weekes can request an investigation into claims of harassment.
Harrison admitted bringing a properly cased long gun into the legislature for a short time about ten years ago. He did not inform the Premier about the incident immediately, saying he did not recall it until later. Harrison lost his job as government house leader, but remains in the provincial cabinet.
