In a community still recovering from the worst mass stabbing rampage in Canada’s history, on Tuesday afternoon RCMP received a report of a man with a firearm on James Smith Cree Nation.
An officer was already in the community and was able to locate a suspect matching the description given in the initial report. RCMP say the suspect tried to flee on foot and became combative with the officer, who used a conducted energy device to subdue and arrest him. A firearm was located and seized at a nearby home while a second man was arrested at a separate home shortly after.
Twenty-eight-year-old Philip Head of Kinistino will appear in Melfort Provincial Court on Monday to face charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm and resist/obstruct a peace officer. As well, 26-year-old Reno Sanderson will appear in Melfort Provincial Court on June 17th, charged with one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, one count of careless use of a firearm, two counts of fail to comply with release order condition and four counts of weapons possession contrary to order
