It’s been a less than amicable lock-out at the Coop Refinery in Regina however, some positives have come from the time workers have spent on the picket line.
Nine-year-old Easton Mengel is suffering from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. His best hope for treatment is in Italy, but the treatment and travel cost comes at around $40,000.
Mengel’s father is a trucker who hauls product in and out of the refinery. While waiting to get inside, he spoke with Carter Herman who is one of the locked out workers.
Herman says he told his fellow members on the line about what was happening and they have come through raising about $10,000 for the family. A go fund me page has also been set up to help with the costs.
Members of Unifor Local 594 were locked out after serving strike notice. They are now in month two on the picket line. (CKRM)
