A Women’s March in Washington the day after U.S. President Donald Trump’s inauguration has become an international event to highlight the message that women’s rights are human rights. This year’s marches will be held tomorrow (Sat).
Spokesperson for the Women’s March in Saskatoon, Kate Lardner, says the global theme this year is bodily autonomy, but local organizers are honing in on the issue of consent. There are many aspects to equality, including women’s rights, immigration reform, healthcare reform, reproductive rights and LGBTQ rights among others.
The cold weather may keep some people home, but if you’re up for the event tomorrow (Sat), it begins at 4 p.m. at d’Lish by Tish Cafe on 14th Street with opening remarks, then the march travels across the bridge to Kiwanis Memorial Park and back, followed by a vigil for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. If it’s really cold out, the march will continue but it will be shorter.
