The Saskatoon Police Service reports that a laser was pointed at a police plane Saturday night. Members of the Air Support Unit were struck with a blue laser light around 10 that evening, which the Police Service states is extremely dangerous for the pilot and crew. It can illuminate the plane’s interior, cause temporary vision loss and potentially cause loss of control of the aircraft.
Officers on the ground were directed to a home in the 400 block of Coad Manor in the Hampton Village neighbourhood, as ASU personnel witnessed a man entering a vehicle in the back alley. Police say during a search of the vehicle a pellet gun and ammunition were seized and a laser was found in the home. A 37-year-old man is charged with mischief, two counts of assaulting a peace officer and breach of probation.
