After an estimated one thousand lab confirmed influenza cases, five deaths are being reported in Saskatchewan.
Three seniors and two younger adults have died from the flu since September, while roughly 16 cases have been admitted to Intensive Care units.
Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab says this year’s “A” strain typically impacts the elderly, which would be one reason why there have been 30 cases in long-term care facilities since September.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority reports that both “A” and “B” strains are active, but so far the “A” strain has been the most common.
