The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce in addition to expanding the number of Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program applications in order to grow the work force, is suggesting lowering the age youth are able to work. The provincial chamber wants to see the age dropped to 13 years old accompanied by appropriate changes to the Young Workers Readiness Certification Course.
Saskatchewan teens aged 14 and 15 must complete the Young Worker Readiness Certificate Course (YWRCC) before beginning work. It is a mandatory job readiness certificate course that teaches young workers about their rights and responsibilities in the workplace as well as health, safety and employment standards. The course was first introduced in 2010. An interactive online course was launched in 2015. The call to lower the age teens can work was part of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce Platform for 2024 Provincial Election
