SaskPower has a nuclear development division, which was created last November to look at small modular reactor development and evaluating the potential role nuclear power could play in Saskatchewan.
And now, after an international job search and competition, the Crown Corporation has announced Leonard Clewett as its new Executive Vice-President of Nuclear Development.
He previously was the Executive Vice-President and Chief Nuclear Officer at Bruce Power in Ontario.
Clewett says he looks forward to working with SaskPower to develop its nuclear portfolio.
SaskPower’s website says it is exploring a range of low or no emissions power source options, including nuclear power from small modular reactors.
The company’s research indicates that power from SMRs has the potential to be reliable power available 24/7, cost-effective, and SaskPower considers it clean energy.
