A 19-year-old male is facing numerous charges after evading police in a stolen vehicle through numerous Saskatoon neighbourhoods on Monday evening.
According to a Saskatoon Police Service news release, at about 7:50 p.m. on Canada Day, patrol officers spotted a stolen vehicle driving northbound on Clarence Avenue South at 12th Street East and followed the vehicle without using emergency lights and sirens so as to maintain public safety. The vehicle continued north on Clarence towards College Drive, then turned west onto the University Bridge where a tire deflation device was deployed unsuccessfully. The vehicle drove through Kinsmen Park and exited into the City Park neighbourhood, then onto Circle Drive East at a high rate of speed. A second tire deflation device was deployed unsuccessfully as the vehicle headed south on Highway 11, at which time police suspended the pursuit. However, they picked it up again when the vehicle drove at a high rate of speed on a grid road, eventually colliding with a fence. The driver attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended by the SPS K9 unit. The 19-year-old man was arrested and faces charges of dangerous driving, evading police, mischief, theft over five thousand dollars plus breaching court-ordered conditions.
