Saskatchewan’s Immigration Services Act is now official, as of July 1st. A news release from the province says it enhances Saskatchewan’s ability to manage and monitor the immigration system and protect foreign workers from exploitation. Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison says it also streamlines processing for employers recruiting internationally.
The Act replaces the Foreign Worker Recruitment and Immigration Services Act, bringing all immigration authorities in Saskatchewan under one piece of legislation. The Act provides the government with increased investigative authorities and enforcement measures to tackle immigration fraud, including the highest fines in the country for violations.
