A couple of incidents on Monday morning greeted the Prince Albert Police Service to a new work week.
At about 2 a.m., officers responded to reports of a man wielding a large knife in public in the 700 block of 15th Avenue East. Upon arrival, police found a lone male carrying the reported weapon and exhibiting erratic behaviour. The suspect failed to comply with instructions by the officers initially, continuing to brandish the knife. At that point, a Conducted Energy Weapon was used to gain control of the suspect and take him into custody without injury to anyone at the scene. The 35-year-old man appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Tuesday, charged with assault on a police officer and carrying a weapon dangerous to the public.
The second incident happened almost seven hours later, at about 8:55 a.m., as police were called to the area of 13th Street West and 1st Avenue West for a report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, officers found a victim who had been assaulted and robbed. He was taken to Victoria Hospital by Parkland Ambulance and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police located and arrested a 34-year-old male suspect a few minutes later in the unit block of River Street West. He also appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Tuesday, charged with aggravated assault, robbery and breach of probation.
