If you draw a line across Saskatchewan north of Meadow Lake across to Nipawin and then to the Manitoba border, everything north is under an Air Quality Advisory due to wildfire smoke and everything south is under a heat warning, in some places Thursday morning there was also a fog advisory.
Environment Canada says one final day of extreme heat is expected for southern Saskatchewan. Daytime high temperatures will reach 32 degrees Celsius and above once again Thursday. Humidity will also be noticeable, with humidex values likely exceeding 38. A slow-moving ridge of high pressure has been responsible for the extreme heat in Saskatchewan. A reprieve from the heat will begin as a cold front passes through the province Thursday night. Cooler temperatures will arrive Friday.
Four new daytime high temperatures were set in Saskatchewan Wednesday including Assiniboia, Elbow, Lucky Lake and in Coronach the community not only set a new record daytime high but was the hotspot in the country.
