SGI Canada is investing $31,000 to help fund learning experiences at Wanuskewin Heritage Park and to provide free admission and parking for visitors to the site every Sunday in August. Board Chair of Wanuskewin, Felix Thomas, says, “This partnership will help support many immersive and educational experiences at the park. The opportunity to enhance our facilities and experiences is welcome as we pursue our designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.”
Spokesperson for SGI Canada, Jeremy Pilon says the decision was made to invest in Wanuskewin to enhance the insurance company’s relationship with Indigenous communities in Saskatchewan and all the provinces where they do business.
Along with the free admission on Sundays in August, through the year, the funding will go toward things like exhibits, demonstrations and other experiences at Wanuskewin. Pilon states that SGI Canada is committed to the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and this partnership is a way to build greater cultural awareness and understanding.
Wanuskewin is land where Nations have gathered for more than 6,400 years and that history and culture is highlighted at the heritage site.
