One of the two Moose Jaw men wanted for armed robbery in Saskatchewan as well as an armed carjacking and multiple armed robberies in Alberta, has been taken into custody after a break and enter at a home in Lehigh, Alberta on Tuesday. A Moose Jaw woman was also charged.
Thirty-eight-year-old Brandon Gariepy, and 26-year-old Dawn Sorowski, both residents of Moose Jaw were arrested.
Drumheller RCMP say the owner was bear sprayed when confronting the suspects and officers converged on the area soon spotting the suspect vehicle going west on Highway #10 towards Drumheller.
The vehicle fled when officers tried to pull it over and the pursuit was called off due to vehicle speeds and the suspect’s erratic driving which included hitting another vehicle. No one was hurt. The suspect vehicle was found abandoned west of Drumheller and more police were brought in including Police Dog Services. Around 8 p.m. Tuesday two suspects were located and taken into custody.
The investigation determined that the suspect vehicle was stolen from Langley, B.C. and had an altered license plate. Police seized bear spray, break in tools, stolen tools, and suspected methamphetamine.
Brandon Gariepy, and Dawn Sorowski were jointly charged with the following:
- Flight from Peace Officer;
- Possession of Methamphetamine;
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public;
- Possession of break in instruments;
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000; and
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000.
Sorowski was additionally charged with breach of probation and Gariepy was additionally charged with the following:
- Robbery;
- Break and Enter;
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle;
- Fail to Remain at scene of an accident;
- Fraudulent Concealment of Insurance Corporation Property;
- Obstruct Peace Officer; and
- Possession of ammunition while being prohibited.
Additionally, Brandon Gariepy was arrested on 3 outstanding arrest warrants, including a Canada Wide warrant from Edmonton Police Service for two counts of robbery and possession of a concealed weapon.
