A Canadian soldier raising funds and awareness about the Wounded Warriors Canada PTSD Support Dog Program will end his 1100 kilometre cycling trek today in Regina at the Royal Canadian Legion on Cornwall Street.
This is his fourth year for the fundraiser. Sgt. Rob Nederlof is a mechanic at Canadian Forces Base Shilo, Manitoba and this year he started in Edmonton dubbing his 2024 trek “Wild Roses and Living Skies”. Last year he started in Saskatoon and ended in Kenora Ontario.
Nederlof is doing this because he has seen how effective the Support Dog Program can be for people with PTSD. He says that the average cost to train a dog is $15,000 and it takes two years, so there is a waiting list for those with PTSD wanting a support dog.
To date, the Nederlofs have raised $91,243.42. That’s $69,243.42, over and above the original goal of $22,000 in three years. By the end of August, Nederlof and his wife will have cycled and driven over 4000 kms for the support dog program. For more information and to donate click here.
