The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after an 18-year-old man was found dead in a sewage lagoon near Langham.
On Friday, at 1:12 a.m., a Warman RCMP officer attempted a traffic stop on a truck with no taillights on Highway 16 near Saskatoon.
The vehicle fled the scene, and the officer did not pursue a chase. Members of the Corman Park and Dalmeny police services were advised of the incident and the vehicle’s description.
Then, at 1:30am, an officer from Corman Park watched the same truck turn off Highway 16. The officer, without the use of lights or sirens, followed the truck, which turned off the road into a field. Officers from numerous detachments searched the area, but they were unable to locate him.
The next morning, the Dalmeny detachment learned that the man had not returned home the previous night. Officers searched the area and spotted the truck partially submerged in the Langham sewage lagoon, but they were not able to find the truck’s owner.
The following day, his body was discovered floating in the lagoon and removed by emergency services.
No further information will be released at this time, but a final report will be issued to the public within 90 days of the investigation ending.
