The federal and provincial governments are partnering to invest $71.3 million into creating more childcare centre spaces across the province.
Over 5,000 new spots will be allocated throughout 2024-25. Over 1,500 of these spaces have already been allocated to new childcare facilities or added into existing facilities in 27 communities in Saskatchewan. The remaining spaces will be established before the end of the fiscal year.
Canada’s Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, Jenna Sudds says this step will “ensure more kids can get off waitlists and into high-quality centres, and provide more families with access to affordable early learning and childcare in their communities.”
The spaces will be approved based on community need, as well as each not-for-profit organization’s readiness to move into the development stage.
