The Saskatoon Police Service has charged a man after an incident Saturday night where a pedestrian and two vehicles were hit in a parking lot. Officers responded to a mall parking lot in the 3500 block of 8th Street East, which is the east side of The Centre Mall, around 11:30 that night and witnesses reported that a white Ford F150 truck hit two vehicles and a pedestrian before leaving the scene. The female who was struck had non-life-threatening injuries
Police say in a news release that officers noticed a truck matching the scene heading west in the eastbound lanes on 8th Street, and as it approached a patrol vehicle head-on, the driver of the suspect truck jumped a curb and hit a fire hydrant, then got out of the vehicle and fled toward officers claiming to be suffering the effects of bear spray. The 20-year-old man is facing charges of assault with a weapon, impaired driving, exceeding 0.08 (point-zero-eight) and dangerous driving.
