For the past week or so, the provincial government has been making announcements in various communities about funding for safer communities and neighbourhoods, and the latest is for Prince Albert. In total, the government has announced over $17 million for more police officers, training new officers, introducing new enforcement tools and working to ensure social supports are in place and accessible.
From this funding, the City of Prince Albert will receive $2 million to hire 17 new frontline officers for the Prince Albert Police Service. Prince Albert Chief of Police, Patrick Nogier, says, “The increased funding for municipal police agencies is a critical investment in the future of public safety in our community.”
Previous to this, there were funding announcements for Estevan, Weyburn, Moose Jaw and Regina, and it began with the original funding announcement with the $17 million total back on September 5th.
