The cold wind and rain didn’t keep the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and University of Calgary Dinos off the turf at Griffiths Stadium for the Dogs annual Homecoming. Saskatchewan grabbed their first victory of the season in Double-Overtime 44-40. Huskies Homecoming brought in a loud and passionate crowd of 8,733 Friday night as the Huskies much-needed win brings their record to 1-and-2 now sitting in a tie with Calgary for third place.
The Huskies had many standouts on the night, with quarterback Anton Amundrud completing 25 of 33 pass attempts for 286-yards. The passing game was successful for Saskatchewan, although they never found the end zone. It was the rushing game that had the most success with star running back Ryker Frank rushing for 223-yards alone, as well as three touchdowns. Javin Poynton had the other two rushing touchdowns, including the game-winner in double-overtime.
Saskatchewan hits the road again next weekend for a clash against the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday, September 20th with kickoff from Thunderbirds Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
