At the beginning of the week, a young student from Prince Albert was recognized for her perseverance, talent and inspiration with the 2024 Terry Fox Award.
Fifteen-year-old Ali Diehl was chosen to receive the award due to her academic performance in the classroom, as well as her athletic performance as a swimmer, all while only having one hand.
Diehl was born with one hand after her umbilical cord wrapped around her arm and stopped it from growing as she was developing.
Since then, at age even she joined the Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club, qualified for all National meets at 13-years-old, consistently medaled at the Speedos Canadian and Ken Demchuk Swimming championships, and last year, she became classified as a World Para Swimming International swimmer, and secured the gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke for 18 and under girls.
