Saskatoon Police responded to seven bear spray incidents over the long weekend from Friday through Monday. The first was Friday afternoon around 2:20 in the 2200 block of 22nd Street West where a male was found suffering the effects of bear spray. The suspect is described as a male who wore jeans, a black jersey, black hat and sunglasses. The victim and suspect are believed to know each other.
Around 6:10 Friday night, police were dispatched to the 200 block of 23rd Street East and found two suspects attempting to flee, but they were both arrested a short time later. The victim didn’t want to proceed with charges, so two boys, 12 and 13 years old, were released to their guardians.
A few hours later at 10:30, officers were called to the 400 block of Fairmont Drive and found a victim suffering the effects of bear spray, who was transported to hospital. The suspects had already fled the scene.
Saturday evening around 6:10, police were dispatched to the westbound lanes of 20th Street for a report of bear spray being discharged on a city bus. An injured male was transported to hospital.
The suspects and victim aren’t believed to know each other.
The fifth incident was an hour later when police were told of a robbery in prograss in the 2100 block of 22nd Street West, wear beary spray was deployed inside a business. The suspects fled, but officers located and spoke with the victim. It is believed the suspects fled with stolen goods.
Over the noon hour on Monday, police responded to a business in the 200 block of Idylwyld Drive North for a robbery in progress with bear spray involved. The suspect fled with stolen property before police arrived.
The next bear spray call was around 6:20 p.m. Monday. It was another report of bear spray on a bus. Officers responded to the intersection of 20th Street East and 1st Avenue South. Police were told a male sprayed a group of females. None of them remained on the scene. The suspect was described as a male wearing all black with white on his sleeves.
Police continue to investigate these bear spray incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call the police or submit a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
