According to a recent poll from the National Police Federation, over three quarters of Saskatchewan voters do not support the Sask. Party’s plan to create a Marshals Service.
An NDP news release says Scott Moe has already put $14 million into the Saskatchewan Marshals Service, despite disapproval from RCMP officers and almost 100 Saskatchewan municipalities.
The poll shows that 78 per cent of voters in the province are already satisfied with RCMP services in their community, and 75 per cent of Saskatchewan residents feel there are more important priorities than creating the new Marshals Service. Poll data also shows that twice as many respondents think it is better to invest more in the existing RCMP.
Instead of implementing the Marshals Service, NDP Leader Carla Beck has committed to hiring more than 200 police officers, increasing funding to Saskatchewan police services and mental health and addictions services, cracking down on organized crime and drug trafficking, and developing an intimate partner violence action plan.
