Yesterday, the Saskatchewan NDP announced several commitments they would make should they be elected in the upcoming provincial election on October 28th.
On the topic of prioritizing Indigenous people, the Party has committed to passing Duty to Consult legislation, with a focus on the sell off of Saskatchewan Crown lands. The NDP also vows to build community infrastructure and restore a government presence in the North, do a better job of recruiting and retaining Indigenous healthcare workers, and provide supports to the survivors of the Timber Bay and Île-à-la-Crosse residential schools.
Beck also announced that, as Premier, her government would invest in building a new K-12 school for Buffalo Narrows. She says right now, students are in a building from the 1960s, with additions from the 1980s.
When it comes to healthcare worker support, Beck plans to upgrade part-time and casual positions to full-time positions and launch a Grow Your Own strategy to benefit norther communities. This would train and upgrade local healthcare workers in the northern communities, keeping them where they live.
Party Leader Carla Beck also announced that she would open more $10-per-day childcare spaces by hiring more childcare staff in effort to get the province out of last place in the country when it comes to access to childcare.
