The Saskatoon Police Service says a vehicle evaded police attempts to perform a traffic stop at 8th Street and Cairns Avenue. This was just before 2:00 a.m. Wednesday and police say the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed through multiple intersections and red lights.
Ground units pulled back and the Air Support Unit took over tracking the SUV and watched as the driver threw a machete out the window. Police later recovered the machete.
Officers successfully deployed multiple tire deflation devices, and the vehicle stopped in the 400 block of 1st Street East. The driver was arrested and the vehicle searched with police seizing two types of ammunition.
A 33-year-old man is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, and multiple weapons charges. The man also had 21 criminal code warrants and was found to be breaching his court-ordered conditions.
