Officially Saskatchewan says there is no coronavirus in the province.
Dr. Saqib Shahab says if a person comes from China and appears symptomatic they call the health line, are assessed by Public Health, and testing is ordered as deemed necessary.
At the moment Saskatchewan’s Chief Medial Health Officer says tests have been ordered in five cases with one having come back negative. They are awaiting results on the other four.
He stresses that the system employed through public health would ensure, for those who were on a form of public transport, to be notified if in contact with someone who had contracted coronavirus.
For those returning from China, for 14 days after arrival they are advised to watch for cough, fever, shortness of breath and other symptoms, but carry on with your day-to-day-life.
If you are symptomatic in those 14 days you are advised to call the Health Line which is when you would be assessed further. Dr. Shahab says screening at Canada’s three airports which have direct flights from China, is only for those returning from China. Those airports are Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
He says in other countries they have had imported cases but they don’t have sustained secondary transmission.
Air Canada, in the wake of the Government of Canada’s Advisory, to avoid non-essential travel to mainland China, is temporarily suspending all direct flights to Beijing and Shanghai as of Thursday and until February 29th.
Air Canada’s last flights departing Canada will operate today and the return flights will operate from Beijing and Shanghai Thursday. Affected customers will be notified and offered options including travel on other carriers where available or a full refund.
