The Ya’thi Néné Lands and Resource Office which represents a list of northern communities and First Nations has signed an exploration agreement with Eagle Plains Resources, which is a mineral exploration company.
A news release from the two entities says the partnership supports mineral exploration in the traditional territory of the Athabasca First Nations in Treaty and Treaty 10 Territories with a commitment to build a mutually beneficial relationship with the Athabasca communities.
It enables opportunities for the northern communities when it comes employment and training, contracting with northern businesses, contributions to YNLR’s community trust and harvester compensation.
Eagle Plains has been active in Saskatchewan uranium exploration since 2006 and has 19 projects in the Athabsca basin.
The YNLR represents the Athabasca Denesuliné First Nations of Hatchet Lake, Black Lake, and Fond du Lac, the Northern Hamlet of Stony Rapids and the Northern Settlements of Uranium City, Wollaston Lake and Camsell Portage.
