University of Saskatchewan researchers have developed an app designed to relieve stress and offer support to caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
Now, the group of researchers, including Nathan Reis, a U of S kinesiology PhD student are looking for more volunteers to test the app before it goes public.
Reis says through the use of podcasts, videos, and articles, the app takes people through an eight-week program focused on a number of areas including sleep, hygiene and physical activity.
Reis adds one of the reasons behind the app was due to the lack of supports for the caregiver, given that there are a number of apps available for those who have dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Another reason was that people that live in rural or remote community and aren’t able to travel to a larger centre to attend a group therapy session can turn to the app to get the support they need.
One of the other objectives of the project is that those who have taken part in the eight-week program, will hopefully not be quite as hard on themselves.
