A public inquest into the death of Kristan Grant will be held this week in Kenosee.
The 36-year-old called police on November 8, 2021, a few minutes before 9 p.m. with a complaint about people in her house.
RCMP members who responded say they found her agitated and noted some injuries present on her body. They say she became more agitated despite efforts by RCMP members to calm her down and deemed she was becoming a danger to herself. She was put in handcuffs and placed in the back seat of the police car to wait for EMS to arrive.
Upon arrival of a first responder, Kristin Grant became unresponsive and life saving measures were initiated. EMS arrived and continued resuscitation en route to the Kipling Hospital. A physician pronounced her deceased at 2:29 a.m. November 9, 2021.
The Coroners Act states that the Chief Coroner shall hold an inquest into the death of a person who dies while an inmate at a jail or a correctional facility, unless the coroner is satisfied that the person’s death was due entirely to natural causes and was not preventable.
Coroner William Davern will preside at the inquest.
