A 45-year-old school bus driver from Buffalo River Dene Nation is facing impaired driving charges. Dillon RCMP were alerted on November 19th around 3:45 in the afternoon about an impaired driver.
Buffalo River Dene Nation security officers and school employees observed signs the driver was intoxicated and tried to prevent and stop him from driving the bus, which RCMP were told had about 50 children on it. Police immediately began to search for the bus and found it a short time later, but there were no children on board. He had already dropped them off along the bus route. When officers observed signs he was intoxicated, the school bus driver was arrested.
From continued investigation and consultation with Crown prosecutors, the 45-year-old was charged and his license was suspended pending the outcome at court. He appears in court in Dillon on December 18th. RCMP thank the Buffalo River Dene Nation security officers and school staff for helping with this investigation.
