Saskatoon’s new mayor says the first few weeks in the position have been great, but that’s not to be confused with easy.
Cynthia Block says the residential street grading plan was activated this week, with ensuring safety and mobility front of mind.
Block says the areas that were most impacted by this winter’s weather events will be targeted first.
“We’ve got this very unusual freeze-thaw cycle that is really causing some unusual ways we need to manage snow and ice… I think what needs to get done is being done, and trying to make sure the people can move around safely in our city.”
Block has an upcoming public appearance at the Meewasin skating rink, where she will have the honour of lighting the Christmas trees.
“It’s more the fun of the ceremony, the excitement of the holiday season, and putting some smiles on kids’ faces, and looking to some optimistic time to be with family and friends, and a new year ahead that will hopefully be good for everyone.”
The lighting ceremony will take place on December 19th at 6:30pm.
