There are 11 ponds around Saskatoon that are designated for recreational uses such as hockey, skating and broomball.
The ice needs to be at least eight inches thick for the Fire Department to post signage saying the pond is safe for recreational use.
In a news release, the city says as temperatures warm and cool throughout the winter, residents will need to be aware of changing ice conditions and use caution around any large bodies of water.
