The Official Opposition is once again highlighting overcrowding at St. Paul’s Hospital. Health Critic Vicki Mowat says patients requiring emergency room care over the next week at St. Paul’s may have to wait in the ambulatory care area, also known as the outpatient services unit, due to severe overcrowding. Mowat states that the hospital has been at 200 per cent capacity or more numerous times since at least the beginning of October, and Royal University Hospital has been 300 per cent full on several occasions in the same time period.
The provincial NDP suggests the Capacity Pressure Action Plan introduced over a year ago hasn’t worked, and instead the government needs to listen to front line workers.
