A year-end news release from the Saskatchewan Marshals Service (SMS) says significant progress has been made hiring staff. This includes Chief Marshal Rob Cameron, Deputy Chief Marshall Rich Lowan, and Civilian Deputy Chief Thomas Sierzycki. Two superintendents, three inspectors and several civilian support positions have been filled as well. The hiring process for experienced officers will begin early in the new year.
The Marshals Service was originally announced two years ago as a way to enhance policing around Saskatchewan with a special focus on arresting “high risk and prolific offenders” and by providing assistance to RCMP and other police forces on challenging investigations. The marshals will also be mandated to investigate crimes related to agriculture, such as thefts and trespassing that may result in crop damage.
The new Marshals Service—which will cost an estimated $20 million annually— will be based in Prince Albert with regional locations to be announced in the first quarter of 2025.
