Matt Dunstone’s Regina foursome stared down elimination four times to capture the SaskTel Tankard Men’s Provincial Curling Championship, capping it off Sunday in Melville with a 4-2 victory over defending champion Kirk Muyres of Saskatoon-Nutana.
Dunstone, Braeden Moskowy, Catlin Schneider and Dustin Kidby will represent Saskatchewan at the Tim Horton’s Brier later this month in Kingston, Ontario. The Regina crew lost the “A” event and “B” event finals to Muyres and the Kody Hartung squad from Langenburg…leaving them in the “C” event where they beat Saskatoon-Nutana’s Shaun Meachem to qualify for the Page Playoffs. From there, the Dunstone foursome eliminated Jason Jacobson of Saskatoon-Nutana, then ousted Hartung 5-4 in the Sunday morning semi-final before making up for losing to Muyres in the 2019 Tankard final. The Dunstone quartet will carry an albatross with them to Kingston…no Saskatchewan team has won the Brier since Rick Folk in 1980!
