With the RMs of Weyburn and Griffin possibly being home to Enbridge wind turbines, a recent town hall meeting invited residents to ask questions and voice concerns.
The event hosted by Enbridge included a panel of experts.
A number of concerns were voiced, relating to the long-term health effects of wind turbines for humans and wildlife.
Doctor Christopher Ollson, a Senior Environmental Health Scientist addressed the effects of the sound of the turbines on humans, saying, “Saskatchewan doesn’t have a sound limit for wind projects. It’s actually the only province that doesn’t. The sound limit that is common across Canada is no more than 40 decibels outside of somebody’s home.”
He pointed to the sound of the furnace heating the room and said he believed the sound of the turbines would be less than half of that.
Ollson added that the setback distances proposed for the area are the furthest he has seen of any project proposed in North America.
