Almost $1.6 million has been awarded through the Provincial Traffic Safety Fund to 79 communities through SGI’s twice-yearly funding of projects which focus on speed reduction measures. Minister Responsible for SGI, Jeremy Harrison, says the grants are extremely beneficial because they fund improvements directly identified by each community. They range anywhere from around $200 to a maximum of $100,000.
Some of this round’s projects include streetlights in Delisle, a traffic awareness project for the RM of Dundurn which includes buying speed trackers, and at White Bear First Nation, the funding is for crosswalk signs and speed awareness. The Provincial Traffic Safety Fund Grant committee is now accepting applications for the next round of funding. The deadline for applications is March 31st.
