While speaking at the SUMA convention in Regina this morning (Mon), the Premier promised Saskatchewan municipalities will receive record revenue sharing in the next budget.
Scott Moe says the municipal revenue sharing program will increase by $27-million in the next fiscal year, for a total of $278-million.
It’s about an 11 per cent increase and a 119 per cent increase from the 2007/2008 fiscal year.
During his address to delegates of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association, Premier Moe also touched on the labour dispute at the Co-op Refinery.
He says the province will appoint a special mediator to bring Unifor 594 and FCL together, on the condition the union agrees to cease all illegal activities, including removing the unlawful barricades.
He believes a negotiated settlement is in the best interest of both parties.
Moe added that if Unifor doesn’t accept the offer, it is his expectation Regina Police will uphold the law, enforce the court order and remove the barricades at the Refinery.
