Saskatchewan Government Insurance has signed a new contract with a different vendor for photo radar.
That means the insurance company is the midst of swapping out the cameras stations.
SGI’s Tyler McMurchy says the new contract is with Redflex Traffic Systems out of BC. The new deal is worth approximately $3.7 million dollars over 5 years.
McMurchy says the cameras will remain at the same locations, except for the addition of the recently approved location near Wakaw.
There are currently nine cameras in use across the province. One is rotated throughout five Circle Drive locations and another camera floats around 5 locations that are in Saskatoon school zones.
The City of Saskatoon is also in the midst of changing its red light cameras as the City is working with a new vendor.
In an email to CJWW News, City officials say barring any unforeseen circumstances, the red light cameras will be put back in place within the next 6 weeks.
The City says the cameras located at Preston Avenue and 8th Street are expected to be the first ones back up in running, possibly within the next two weeks.
