The provincial government is highlighting a drug trafficking investigation which began as a traffic stop near Swift Current, with eight kilograms of fentanyl seized, as an example of the strong partnership between the RCMP and Provincial Protective Services.
The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety says the PPS’s Conservation Officer Service and the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol officers are targeting illicit drugs, weapons and human trafficking cases near the border and across the province. Premier Scott Moe says, “This seizure of fentanyl is another significant outcome we are seeing from our investments in the Saskatchewan RCMP and the Provincial Protective Services as they tackle crime and prevent harmful drugs from reaching our communities.”
Saskatchewan RCMP Assistant Commissioner Commanding Officer Rhonda Blackmore says this month alone, investigators removed significant quantities of drugs from our streets, and officers have collaborated with partner agencies on multiple serious investigations.
Since January 6th, PPS officers and the RCMP have also conducted high visibility patrols near the Saskatchewan – U.S. border to ensure a strong presence, focused on commercial vehicle safety, traffic safety and compliance as part of the Saskatchewan Border Security plan.
