If you have ever wondered how Environment Canada’s Extreme Cold Warning works, there are different thresholds that have to be reached, depending on where you live in the country. For instance, in Southern Saskatchewan, the windchill has to reach -40 for at least two hours.
Further north, the threshold is -45. The coldest threshold is the northern part of Northwest Territories, Baffin Island and Western and Northern Nunavut at -55. That’s compared to the ‘warmest’ threshold of -30 for South-central and Southwestern Ontario. Click here for more specifics.
