A University of Saskatchewan study will examine if pea protein can strengthen bone structure in people over the age of 50.
This would be important for those who are lactose intolerant or prefer the taste of pea milk or almond milk that has pea protein added.
A previous study involving 12-17-year-old athletes noted there was a marked increase in bone geometric measures which are predictive of bone strength—especially in the hip bone.
That study and the new one is being led by Dr. Phil Chilibeck—a professor at the University of Saskatchewan College of Kinesiology. CJWW Agriculture Director Neil Billinger interviews Dr. Chillibeck and more information on the study can be viewed here.
