Yesterday (Thurs), the Prime Minister, the Minister of National Defence, Canada’s Ambassador to the United States and Canada’s Fentanyl Czar met virtually with Canada’s premiers to discuss Canada-U.S. relations and Arctic security.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau updated the premiers on Canada’s fight against fentanyl and Canada’s Border Plan. Among the actions listed that have happened since February 5th – seven criminal organizations now being listed as terrorist entities, anti-money laundering measures have been launched, tackling fentanyl trafficking and establishing a joint Canada-U.S. task force on organized crime. The group discussed the evolving tariff threat and the possibility of reciprocal tariffs and the Premiers talked about their meetings with political and business leaders in Washington, D.C.
Defence Minister Bill Blair noted recent commitments to strengthen Arctic security which include airborne early warning and control aircraft, =a new satellite ground station, and over $38 billion for modernizing NORAD.
