Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke in Kyiv today (Mon) at a peace and security summit, on the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Ahead of the summit, he took part in a public memorial along with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders, honouring those who died fighting in the war against Russia,
At the summit, Trudeau began by commenting on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s bravery, resilience and resolve, in stark comparison to U.S. President Donald Trump calling him a dictator last week. He added that Russia’s actions are nothing short of a direct attack against rules-based international order, which was established in response to the most destructive war in our collective history. Trudeau commented that the past 80 years have been the most peaceful and prosperous. “We cannot go back. We cannot return to an era where might makes right. We must do everything in our power to enable Ukraine to secure a just and lasting peace – a peace that cannot be achieved without Ukrainians at the table.”
Canada’s Prime Minister noted that this is a war of aggression on Ukraine’s people, culture and identity but it’s also a war on our way of life – on democracy, rule of law, justice and truth. Trudeau also announced sending 25 light armoured vehicles to Ukraine and $5 billion which will come from seized Russian assets.
