The head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, says gas prices edged slightly lower across Canada over the past week, although Patrick De Haan cautions that “even as geopolitical tensions intensify, with the Trump administration promising tariffs that could not only create economic uncertainty but also impact what some Canadians pay at the pump in the weeks ahead.” He explains that along with the volatility around possible tariffs, there are also the ongoing concerns about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and discussions of a potential deal to end the war. De Haan says, “While OPEC has signaled its intent to stabilize the market, policy decisions from the White House could introduce further uncertainty, making it difficult to predict where prices will head next. However, nearly every year sees a seasonal spring increase, which could push prices higher by summer.”
Gas prices were down across Canada by 1.5 cents a litre in the past week while in Saskatoon, the price was only down by 0.2 cents a litre. The national average price on Sunday was $1.52.66 and in Saskatoon, the average was $1.52.69 cents a litre. Looking back to a year ago, the price in Saskatoon was 3.3 cents a litre lower than it is now. The Saskatchewan average price for gas is down 0.8 c/L, at $153.16 c/L.
