It was a record breaking holiday food drive for Loblaw stores in Saskatoon.
Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, Extra Foods and Your Independent Grocer locations generated over $15,500 dollars and over 8,600 pounds of food for the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre.
Dennis’s Independent location near Rosewood on the city’s east side contributed the most to the record number of donations with $6,800 in cash and 2,450 pounds of food.
Dennis Wieffering says he was surprised by the generosity of his customers and the engagement of his staff in the food drive.
He says it’s satisfying to be able to make that large of a donation to the food bank.
“I think we all know some people who are in need of the services they (food banks) provide and it just a great honour and a thrill that we we’re able to provide and support as much as we did this past drive that we had.”
Wieffering says residents can drop off donation at his store anytime of the year.
