A reminder to the public from the Saskatoon Fire Department (S-F-D) about ice conditions as the weather is on the verge of really warming up.
With high temperatures expected above zero this week, and as high as 16 on Friday and Saturday, the S-F-D says ice thickness is no longer suitable for winter recreational use, meaning crews will be posting, No Skating” signs on all recreational storm ponds. Additionally, with ice on the South Saskatchewan River melting, the S-F-D reminds the public to not venture out onto the ice that covers sections of the river. As well, an elevated level of caution is urged by the S-F-D around any large body of water in the city, be it near the South Saskatchewan River or any storm water retention pond.
