All flags at City of Saskatoon facilities are being flown at half-mast today (Wed) for the National Day of Remembrance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, commemorating the sacrifices made by members of the Canadian Corps during the Battle in 1917.
The day is to honour the nearly 3,600 soldiers who died and the more than 7,000 who were wounded on April 9th of 1917.
The Government of Canada website says, “The legacy of the Canadians who accomplished so much in that important First World War battle lives on. Some say that Canada came of age as a country on those harsh April days in 1917.”
The Battle of Vimy Ridge marked the first time that all four divisions of the Canadian Corps fought in battle together in the First World War.
