Over 470 Saskatchewan women have had to travel to Calgary for breast cancer care, while also footing a portion of the bill to do so.
The provincial NDP says the Sask. Party government has failed to provide basic breast cancer care in Saskatchewan, which has forced these women into visiting a private clinic owned by a Sask. Party donor in Calgary.
The out-of-province numbers were revealed by the Health Minister during a legislative committee meeting earlier this month.
The Opposition says the Calgary clinic charges the government $2,000 per patient, but the provincial government’s website shows that mammograms can cost $135.60 in our public healthcare system.
Vicki Mowat, Saskatchewan NDP Health Critic says, “You shouldn’t have to leave the province and pay out of pocket for something as important as breast cancer care.”
